There are a number of wonderful initiatives that are run by youth which are bringing together the community. As Kerala and time changes, we may need new sorts of collectives and movements that could address the challenges of the present day.
If we ask, which are the present day alternatives to workers movements or socialist movement or the recent Kudumbashree movement that are relatable to millennials and Gen Z.
I got reminded by this talk I heard as part of the policy Yatra I was part of. It was in Mumbai and some senior persona was talking, one of the thing he pointed out stood with me for long.
He started talking about the vidharbha and the sad state of farmer suicides, we all were thinking about it deeply and then he continued, “more number of suiside happens here in Mumbai, house wife’s and students are most of the ones we are loosing, if human life got the same value, we should be talking about those too, right !?"
This question stuck with me, the underlaying realisation was, having things that some pay think pricy, might not directly propositional to emotional well being. When people says depression is a privilege, I tend not to agree to that. Property always shouldn’t be not having food. for me not having a safe space to went to, not feeling a reason to live, all are important things, that are needed to be addressed.
For a fact we all know there are families that can spend lakhs or crores to marry off a girl but not a 100o rs for her to go and attend a workshop / session. Someone who have a number of cars at home are not allowed to go to another city in kerala to attend a hackathon.
There are many times of poverties, not having access to not having freedom to move / do a job / join a course / be with someone you like. So in order to bring justice / move society forward, we are in need of number of small / micro movements.
